Man on a Mission- Regenerating the Town Centre

For Danny getting things right is a 24/7 pre-occupation and starts with the basics - keeping on top of cleansing, anti social behaviour and neglect of our street environment. Avoiding the ‘broken window’ syndrome that characterises many town centres is the key to attracting in new investments and helping local businesses prosper. Big schemes help but without daily attention to detail they will not be enough. Housing is a particular concern of Cllr. Howard because uncontrolled development of poor quality bedsits in large older houses ( houses in multiple occupation- HMOs) can drag an area down.  ‘Homes above Shops’ is a great idea but only if conversions are done in the right way to preserve the fine architecture that characterises places like Lord St. Vigilance is needed to ensure that the verandahs of Lord St are kept in good shape. Danny believes strongly that if all stakeholders pull together and act with the right principles in mind and get the basics right we can turn round the decline we have seen in recent years and encourage new and innovative development.
