No Answers on the Aviary

Sneaked through during the budget process, Sefton Council is trying to save £60,000 by closing the Botanic Gardens Aviary- a much loved display of exotic birds that has delighted and educated many generations over the years. This has been done without consultation with the public, councillors or animal welfare organisations. No wonder the public are enraged with over 5000 residents petitioning against it. Cllr. Daniel Lewis who put the public's concerns forcibly to the Council  ( SEE HERE  https://sefton.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/1106351)  got no clarity.  Fellow Meols Ward councillor, Lauren Keith, said, “ Neither the wishes of the public nor the welfare of the birds seems to have been properly considered in the rush to pocket some savings and what we have witnessed over the years has been a gradual removal- bit by bit- by Sefton's Labour administration of all that makes the Botanic distinctive. Without the hard work of local volunteers it would be so much worse. ”
